About Our Jewellery

What Is Gold Filled Jewellery?

Gold-filled jewellery is a beautiful and durable option to enjoy the luxury of gold without the hefty price tag. It combines the richness of real gold with excellent durability, making it a fantastic choice for everyday wear.

The key difference between gold-filled and gold-plated jewellery lies in the thickness and quality of the gold layer. By law, gold-filled jewellery must contain at least 5% or 1/20 of its total weight in gold. This is significantly more gold than what is used in gold-plated items, which typically have only a microscopic layer of gold that can peel or flake easily, exposing the base metal underneath.

Thanks to its thick layer of bonded gold, gold-filled jewellery is highly resistant to tarnishing, flaking, or peeling. With proper care, it can maintain its beautiful appearance for years, offering an affordable yet lasting alternative to solid gold.

Why Choose Gold-Filled Jewellery?

  • Durability: The thick layer of gold ensures longevity, even with frequent wear.
  • Affordability: Enjoy the look and feel of real gold without the high cost.
  • Hypoallergenic: Gold-filled jewellery is often suitable for sensitive skin, as the thicker gold layer provides better protection against potential irritation from the base metal.
  • Timeless Appeal: Our gold-filled jewellery is crafted with 14ct gold for a classic and elegant finish.
How To Take Care Of Gold Filled Jewellery

How to Care for Gold-Filled Jewellery

Gold-filled jewellery contains 100 times more gold alloy than gold-plated jewellery. Because the gold layer is so much thicker, gold-filled jewellery is far more durable and can last a lifetime with proper care. It is also more resistant to tarnishing and stands up to wear and tear better than gold-plated items.

While gold-filled jewellery is tarnish-resistant and can withstand water exposure, we recommend avoiding showering or swimming while wearing it. Although it is technically waterproof, frequent exposure to water, especially chlorinated or saltwater, can dull its lustre over time.

Tips for Caring for Your Jewellery

1. Protect from Water and Chemicals

  • Avoid swimming, showering, or washing up while wearing your jewellery to preserve its shine.
  • Keep your jewellery away from harsh chemicals like perfumes, cleaning products, or chlorine, as they can damage the gold layer.

2. Clean Gently

  • To maintain its shine, gently clean your gold-filled jewellery with warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners or polishing cloths meant for silver, as these can damage the gold surface.

3. Handle Bracelets with Care

  • All bracelets are hand-threaded on high-quality jewellery elastic using durable, high-quality beads that will not chip or peel.
  • To maintain the elasticity and prevent overstretching, roll your bracelets onto your wrists rather than pulling or stretching them over your hand.

4. Store It Safely

  • Store your jewellery in a soft pouch or a tarnish-resistant jewellery box to avoid scratches and exposure to air.

5. Wear It Often

  • Regular wear helps maintain the gold’s appearance, as the natural oils on your skin can keep it polished.

By following these simple care tips, your gold-filled jewellery will maintain its beauty and longevity. If you have any questions about caring for your pieces, feel free to reach out, we’re always happy to help!

How to Care for Your Sterling Silver Jewellery

Sterling silver is a beautiful and timeless material, but it requires a little care to maintain its shine. Over time, it can naturally tarnish due to environmental factors, but with proper attention, your jewellery will stay radiant for years to come.

Why Does Sterling Silver Tarnish?

Sterling silver (92.5% pure silver mixed with other metals like copper) tarnishes when exposed to air, moisture, and everyday chemicals. This is a normal process and not a sign of poor quality. However, if left uncared for—such as being stored in a cold, damp room or left out in the open air without protection—the tarnishing process will accelerate significantly.

Top Tips for Caring for Your Jewellery

1. Store It Properly

  • Always store your jewellery in an airtight bag or tarnish-resistant jewellery box to minimise exposure to air and moisture.
  • Avoid cold, damp rooms, and don’t store jewellery in bathrooms or other humid spaces.
  • Keep each piece separate to prevent scratching or tangling.

2. Avoid Exposure to Chemicals

  • Remove your jewellery before applying lotions, perfumes, or hairspray.
  • Take off silver pieces before swimming, showering, or using cleaning products.

3. Wear It Often

  • Regular wear slows tarnish, as the natural oils on your skin keep silver polished.

4. Clean Gently

  • Use a soft silver polishing cloth to remove tarnish and restore shine.
  • For light cleaning, mix warm water with mild washing-up liquid. Soak your jewellery for a few minutes, then rinse and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

5. Tackle Tarnish Early

  • For stubborn tarnish, use a paste made from bicarbonate of soda and water. Apply gently with a soft cloth or toothbrush, rinse thoroughly, and dry completely.

Important Reminder

Sterling silver is sensitive to its environment. If left unworn or stored in cold, damp conditions without protection, tarnish will develop faster. Taking a few moments to store your jewellery properly can make a world of difference in keeping it looking beautiful.

  • Wrap the tape or string around your wrist where you would normally wear the bracelet.
  • If using string, mark the point where the end meets and measure the length against a ruler.

2. Select Your Bracelet Size:

  • Our bracelets are sized by the wrist measurement they fit. For example, if your wrist measures 17 cm, you should choose a bracelet that is listed as 17 cm.
  • Each bracelet is designed to fit snug but comfortably at the measurement listed, ensuring the best fit possible.
